July 27, 2016, my and my friend were already planning to have our ears pierced since last month but did not have the "moment" to do so. We were just window shopping in Bugis when we saw Stellar. They offer free ear piercing if you buy the earrings from their shop. I was a bit reluctant to have my ear pierce in a shop that I am not really familiar with. However, their staff was very informative and really assisted us throughout the whole process. She even showed her beautifully done ear piercings and assured us that it was not that painful. We were initially planning to have a pinna piercing but after hearing that it will take a longer time to heal and might be more painful, we decided to go with an ear lobe piercing for now. Since they sell the earrings by pair, we opted to split the amount and agreed to purchase the 3mm crystal stud worth SGD 49.50 (after discount).
It's time to pierce! The first step was to mark the area which will be pierced with a pen marker. She gave us a mirror to see if we were satisfied with the position. After which, she cleaned the area with antiseptic and applied a numbing spray. Each stud was encased in a single use cartridge which made it very safe and hygienic. It was just like my ears were being stapled, minus the pain. Voila! I did not even feel anything pierce my skin. She applied another antiseptic gel and instructed us to apply it 1-2 times a day to avoid infection. She gave us a piece of paper with instructions on how to care for our new piercings.
1. Clean the earlobes front and back 1-2 times a day with Medisept ear care gel (cost: SGD 6). Avoid touching your ears and if you are going to do so, wash your hands first.
2. DO NOT REMOVE THE STUDS! This will cause the hole to close and might even lead to infection.
3. After application of the gel, turn the studs like winding a watch and slide it back and forth to work the solution into the hole.
4. Avoid getting shampoo, soap, hair spray, cologne, or hair dye into the pierced ear during the healing period.
5. Leave the studs in for four to six weeks. For the first six months, try to keep the studs on and remove it for the shortest time possible (should be less than 24 hours). Otherwise, the hole will begin to close.
6. After the training weeks (4-6 weeks) it is possible to remove the studs and change to a gold, surgical stainless steel or sterling silver earring. Avoid wearing heavy earrings for at least 4 months after training period.
7. PAIN, REDNESS, and SWELLING is not normal. It can be cause by an allergic reaction to a foreign object in the skin or infection. If this occurs, try to remove the studs as soon as possible and see your physician at once.
It has already been 3 days since we had our ears pierced and I did not feel any pain on the 2nd day onwards. There is a slight tingling sensation after the first few hours until the 1st day but it is not something that will bother you. There are cheaper shops which offers ear piercings as well but as a first timer, we think that safety is top priority compared to cost. Aside from this, their ear piercings are safe for children and they will even give your child a piercing certificate for being brave.
So if you are planning to have your ears pierced, I suggest you drop by Stellar in Bugis (200 Victoria Street Bugis Junction Level 01-K1). You can visit their Facebook page to see the happy faces of their brave customers. Here is a photo of our first ear piercings. It's Done!
