Just Keep Rowing

I stumbled upon this Youtube video from Prince Ea from one of my Facebook feeds and I was inspired to write a blog about it. It is about the song " Row Your Boat". A simple song, with simple lyrics but when Prince Ea broke down the meaning of the song, it made me think. How do I row my boat? Steadily, merrily, or am I struggling?

In this world of social media and posting selfies or what not; we become obsess with how other people will perceive us. We let other people row OUR boat. We become conscious of how we look yet we look out for faults from other people. It is like a chain reaction, we are afraid to be judged but we judge other people . We row OTHER people's boat. Instead, I think that we should mind our own body and row OUR OWN boat. We should think positively, appreciate our surroundings and just look up. Look up from our phones and see how the lovely old couple stare into each other's eyes. Look up and appreciate life. I know that it is quite hard to do; to look away from our phones and pay attention. However, I think this can be done if you put your mind into it. I am trying to check my Facebook page for 30 minutes per day and focus my time on something that is more productive like playing the ukulele or cleaning my room. I observed that I am able to do more with my day and I am able to see more things that I think I won't be able to notice if I was checking my phone. Such as this chicken which is seldom seen in Singapore streets.

Row your boat gently down the stream. We have to avoid struggling to be on top and just go with the flow. Take every challenge we face as an opportunity to learn and to grow into a better human being. If we go through each day with a positive outlook in life, everyday will flow steadily and we won't need to struggle rowing against the stream. So how would you like to wake up each day?
