One thing to another

All good things must come to an end; even with clothes. However, all endings also come with new beginnings; even with clothes. (wink*) I had somewhere to go after work so I brought my clothes to wear after work and to my surprise, the zipper of my shorts cannot zip up anymore. Not because I gained weight, but the zipper already "gave up". Luckily, I brought a cardigan so I was able to conceal the zipper issue. Time to buy me some new shorts. However, I observed that shorts and pants are almost the same price. They use less cloth yet the price is almost the same. What a cruel world. So, to save my hard-earned money. I usually buy pants and just cut my older pants to become shorts. This cycle goes on every time I need new shorts. I do buy shorts but only if I really, really, really like it but if I think I can make it then I won't buy one. So how do I turn my pants into shorts? It's quite simple. Here is how I did it step-by-step.

1. Find the perfect pair of old pants. There are times when cheap pants won't hold its shape after washing it. These can be used to as a short since the parts that usually stretches can be cut off.

2. Wear the pants and using a pencil or a tailor's chalk (anything that will wash off), mark the desired length of the shorts. After which, you can remove the pants and draw a line about 2 inches BELOW the first line. This will serve as your hem.

3. Fold the hem twice about 1 Inch each to hide the raw edges. Take a needle and thread (preferably the same color as your pants or at least the same shade); sew the sides of the fold that you made. If you have a sewing machine, You can sew the hem but since I am lazy, I usually stitch the opposite sides only.

4. You can end here if you are satisfied with your new shorts. For me, I wanted to add some "pizzazz" to it so I turned it into a distressed shorts. I cut out two slits and used a pair of tweezers to gently pull the thread to give it a tattered look.

4. Using a blade, you can run it through the pockets of the shorts. I also used my July Loot Crate pin to decorate it. "Live long and prosper"

5. Use you creativity to jazz up your shorts. You can add lace, bleach it or paint on it.

I hope you find this tutorial useful. So next time you are thinking to spend on a SGD 40 short, think of your old pants and let your imagination run free.
