Blank Space

Lacuna is a latin word which means a blank space, a missing part. There is a lacuna in my room and although there are a lot of wall decors that I can buy to fill the space, I chose to make them myself. I still needed to buy some materials and I saw these posters in typo which are on sale (it's a steal at 2 for 10 SGD). I searched for some DIY tutorials from Youtube and stumbled upon Drew Scott. He makes awesome and easy DIY for room decors and I decided to do a minimal photo and memento display.

There is path going home where there are a lot of branches and I searched for one that is clean and the size is just right. I further cleaned the branch and used a silver acrylic paint. I let the paint dry overnight. Here are the other materials that I used for this project.

I bought the twine and the wooden pinch from Daiso and cut out some photos from a magazine. I also had some Instax photos. Tie the twine on both ends of the branch (you can use a wooden stick as well) and hang on the wall. This will make it easier to tie and assemble the wooden pinch.

Cut a the twine into long pieces. You don't need to measure each as you can cut it into the desired length after you are done.

Tie the twine to the branch then slip through the wooden pinch and tie a knot below it.

Continue to do so and try to space out the wooden pinch. I placed the photos at the same time so I can estimate the spaces between each pinch.

The end product is:

I used Blutack to stick everything into the wall as I cannot put any nails or double sided tape (which can damage the wall). I found the print on the Typo paper bag to be very cute so I decided to cut it out. I folded 3 strips of paper to look like an accordion and glued it on the back of the print. I pinched the paper where I mounted the print with the wooden pinch and tied the twine to hang it. I think Typo is selling a pop out or 3D type of wall decor like this which is made of resin and is expensive.

There is a blank space on the upper portion of my wall so I decided to display my Lootpin collection from Lootcrate. You can save 5 USD on your first month if you use this link to sign up http://looted.by/dEQFE

I simply pinned the lootpins into a piece of cloth and removed the plastic in front of an Ikea photo frame. I stretch the fabric into the back of the photo frame and secured it. This way I can remove the back to add more lootpins.

Now, my blank space can show you incredible things. Magic. Madness. Heaven. Sin.
